TIL of Freshwater seals. There are rare populations in places such as Lake Baikal, Russia and Iliamna Lake, Alaska. In 2004, a healthy seal was found on the road in Merced County, California, more than 100 miles upstream from San Francisco Bay and half a mile from the San Joaquin River.
