TIL this purple snailfish was filmed at a depth of 5 miles using a deep sea camera-equipped lander in the Pacific Ocean's Atacama Trench located off the coast of Peru and Chile in 2018 making it the first time to ever see this species. Pink and blue snailfish were also filmed during the expedition.
