TIL Nintendo was founded in 1889 as a Hanafuda card shop. The cards became so popular with the Yakuza that they based their full-body tattoos on Nintendo’s original illustrations. The cards eventually fell out of favor in the 1960s, leading Nintendo to reinvent itself through video games.
