TIL multi-track recording was invented by Ross Snyder in 1955. His 8-track recorder, named the Sel-Sync machine, was sold to Les Paul for $10,000. It became known as the "Octopus". Les Paul, Mary Ford and Patti Page used the technology in the late 1950s to enhance vocals and instruments.
