TIL that Henry Tandy, the soldier who allegedly spared Adolf Hitler, went on to become the most decorated private soldier in WWI. During the 5th battle of Ypres, Tandy, who refused to kill unarmed men one of which, was supposedly Hitler, Received the Victorian Cross award.
