TIL that in the 1920s, cows started spontaneously hemorrhaging. It was found they were eating hay from moldy sweet clover; the mold helped convert an aromatic compound in the clover into an anticoagulant. The substance was isolated and used as rat poison, and later the drug Warfarin.
