TIL from 1935-1964 in the US all liquor bottles were required to have the phrase “Federal Law Forbids Sale or Reuse of this bottle”. This was done in an effort to discourage the reuse of empty bottles for selling moonshine, the sale of which was very common during the Prohibition era.
