Today I learned that Red Pandas are in fact two species: Himalayan Red Pandas and Chinese Red Pandas. Red Pandas belong to a family of mammals known as Ailuridae, and they are the only surviving species. Their nearest fossil ancestors, Parailurus, lived 3-4 million years ago.
