TIL that US submarine torpedos in WW II often failed to detonate due to faulty design of their firing pins. To correct the problem, Pearl Harbor workshops designed and mass produced new firing pins from the propeller blades of Japanese aircraft downed in the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
