TIL when Dean Martin was signed to Paramount in California in 1949, he was thrilled to be out of NYC as he had a lifelong discomfort with the city, mainly because of its tall buildings. When he leased a Manhattan highrise, he lived on the third floor. He also liked L.A. as it had few tall buildings.
