TIL Kentucky has the strictest school bus safety standards in the USA, e.g. requiring 9 emergency exits. It was in response to a tragic 1988 school bus crash where a fire killed 27 trapped children and adults. The 1977 bus had only 2 exits and ran off flammable gasoline held in an unprotected tank.
