TIL Sir Richard Temple was so successful in relieving the Bihar Famine of 1874 as Lt. Governor that he was reprimanded by the British Government for the cost incurred. With that in mind he rendered much less aid during the famine of 1876-1878 and was made a Baron; at least 5.5 million Indians died.
