TIL that until the 1967 Supreme Court case In re Gault, juveniles accused of crimes in the US did not have the same due process rights as adults. The case involved a 16 year-old sentenced to 6 years in juvenile detention for a prank call, a crime for which adults had a maximum sentence of 2 months.
