TIL In 1588, Elizabeth I of England’s Navy defeated the Spanish Armada and forced their remaining fleet to sail around England, back to Spain where many ships crashed along the rocky shores of Ireland. On Elizabeth’s orders, thousands of surviving Spaniards were massacred on the beaches of Ireland.
