TIL In 1885 W.T. Stead, a newspaper editor for the Pall Mall Gazette, wrote a series of four articles about child prostitution. To prove the point he “purchased” a 13-year-old prostitute. The concerning article is said to have helped pass a bill that raised the age of consent from 13 to 16.
