TIL that in 1774 two London doctors formed an institution to treat drowning victims. One treatment used: Smoke Enemas. Volunteer medical assistants (called ‘Pipe Smoker London Medics’) inserted an enema tube with rubber tubing attachments into the victim and blew smoke into the rectum.
