TIL in 1859 Delos Ashley and David Jack bought nearly all of the California town of Montery for $1,000. David unethically evicted his tennants and claim their products including a monestary's cheeses. Jack sold those cheese and it was so popular his buyers called them "Montery Jack's Cheese."
