TIL in WWI the British dug tunnels 120 feet underground to lay 22 mines beneath German trenches. Exploded at 3AM, the mines took out 10,000 German soldiers and an entire town in a “detonation now known as history’s deadliest non-nuclear, man-made explosion.”
