TIL that banoffee pie was created in 1971 at the Hungry Monk Restaurant in the UK. The chef and owner of the restaurant were trying to replicate a San Francisco recipe for Blum's Coffee Toffee Pie. They added banana to one version of the recipe and it proved very popular with their customers.
