TIL Napoleon's invasion of Syria was stopped by the defensive work of Antoine Le Picard de Phélippeaux, a former classmate of Napoleon. Phélippeaux was a royalist working on behalf of British/Ottomans at Acre where he rebuilt the defenses. Napoleon failed to seize Acre and gave up the campaign.
