TIL, during World War II, Soviet physicists Anatoly Alexandrov & Igor Kurchatov created the LPTI system, which helps in demagnetizing ships to protect them from German naval mines. By the end of 1941, the system was successfully used by Soviet Navy in the Baltic Sea and Black Sea naval campaigns.
