TIL Airman Marcus McDilda, shot down Aug. 8, 1945, was interrogated by the Japanese about the U.S. atomic arsenal. McDilda, knowing nothing, "confessed" under torture that America had 100 more bombs and that Tokyo was next. Confident he was telling the truth, the Japanese surrendered.
