TIL Mao Zedong's English interpreter Ji Chaozhu moved to New York in 1939 at age 9, to avoid the war and spent a year at Harvard before returning to China in 1950. He worshipped Mao and remember the Chairman as “serene,” “regal,” and “mentally far away, at peace.”
