TIL that the creator of the original Godzilla, Eiji Tsuburaya, was a propaganda filmmaker for the Japanese Imperial Government. His special effects were so realistic that U.S. occupation forces mistook his film about Pearl Harbor as actual footage and used it in documentaries about the attack.
