TIL about Mrs Chippy, a male cat that took part in Shackleton's Trans-Antarctic Expedition. Originally thought a female, he was given that name because the crew thought he followed the ship's carpenter, "Chippy" McNish, like an attentive wife. A statue of Mrs Chippy is on McNish's grave.
