TIL that the modern fairy tale version of 'Beauty and the Beast' can be traced back almost 300 years to French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneu in 1740, but research seems to indicate that the story of Beauty And The Beast is about 4,000 years old (as is Rumpelstiltskin).
