TIL On March 16, 1968 Hugh Thompson, a US Army helicopter pilot, played a pivotal role in ending the My Lia Massacre in a southern Vietnam village. Thompson threatened to open fire on American troops if they continued to harm innocent civilians. His extraordinary actions prevented further tragedy.
