TIL that prior to 9/11, the most FDNY firefighters lost in a single day was 12. The 23rd St Fire on October 17, 1966 killed 12 Firefighters when a floor collapsed. A recent renovation to the building had removed a load-bearing wall in the basement to increase storage space for an art dealer tenant.
