TIL not a single survivor of the original 115 settlers of Roanoke Island were ever found in 1590. There was no trace of violence, struggle or even a grave, only the word 'CRO' carved in one tree and 'CROATAN' carved in another. It is one of the oldest unsolved mysteries in American history.
