TIL the Rolling Stones get all royalties for The Verve’s hit “Bittersweet Symphony” despite The Verve being granted permission to use a few notes from a symphonic cover of a 1965 Stones song in exchange for 50% royalties. Turns out those notes weren’t even written by the Rolling Stones.
