TIL of the Schulze-Boysens, a married couple who were members of the German high society. They were also anti-Nazi activists who formed a resistance group known as the Red Orchestra. They were caught and executed in 1942 but the Red Orchestra continued throughout the war as an espionage network.

TIL the first rocket to make it to space was the German V2 rocket MW 18014 launched on 20 June 1944 and reached an apogee of 176 kilometers or 109.6 miles. The rocket didn't have enough velocity to orbit causing it to return to Earth.

TIL that pathologist Jack Kevorkian publicly championed a terminal patient's right to die by physician-assisted suicide and because of this was often portrayed in the media with the name of "Dr. Death". He said that he assisted at least 130 patients to that end. He was convicted of murder in 1999.
