TIL that the Karen are an actual ethnic group of approximately 7.5 million Sino-Tibetan peoples. While the group as a whole is heterogeneous and disparate, some of the Karen, led primarily by the Karen National Union (KNU), have been in a constant state of war since the 1940s.
