TIL Mr. Miyagi was a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. He was part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team historically one of the most highly decorated regiments in WW2. There is a scene where Daniel picks it up out of a box after he puts a drunk Mr. Miyagi to bed.
