TIL that the CocaCola-Mentos reaction is not a chemical but a physical reaction. Gas dissolved in CocaCola needs a surface to form on. We can increase that surface by adding Mentos. The microscopic surface of Mentos is quite rough, so it allows a lot of gas to form and it creates a lot of pressure.
