TIL Takashi Yanase (Anpanman creator) was a soldier during the Japanese occupation of China in World War II, where he lost his brother in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he hated warfare and preferred being a children's author. He was also deeply ashamed with Japan's actions throughout the war.
