TIL: the sports rating system ELO, most seen in competitive chess, isn't an acronym but the last name of it's inventor, the Hungarian Arpad Elo (1903-1992). He came up with a more fair rating based on the then current one. Other sports use it well, often with minor tweaks and naming.
