TIL in 1957 a man crashed his military plane in the Sierra Nevadas and was lost. He emerged 54 days later and had a tale of survival, but with no wreckage found, people thought he sold the plane to the Russians. His wife left him, he was cast out. Years after he died, the wreckage was finally found.
