TIL The Rosetta Stone was discovered by French soldiers in 1799 during Napoleon's Egyptian campaign in the city of Rosetta. The stone was inscribed with the same decree in three scripts hieroglyphic, Demotic, and Greek which proved to be the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.
