TIL about Vozrozhdeniya, an island in the Aral Sea that was a Soviet bio weapons testing facility. In 1988 the Soviets dumped 100-200 tons of anthrax and bleach there. They also buried hundreds of infected animals and abandoned labs. It is one of the deadliest places on Earth.
