TIL Spartacus led his escape from his ludus/slavery by gathering about 70 slaves who seized kitchen utensils to fight their way free. They then seized several wagons of gladiatorial weapons and armor. They defeated legions that chased after them and eventually swelled their numbers to about 70,000.

TIL that an illegally corked bat was confiscated during the 1st inning of a 1994 Indians vs White Sox game and stored in the umpire’s room for later examination. A teammate crawled 30 feet through the stadium ductwork and swapped out the bat, and an investigation led by a former FBI agent ensued.

TIL about Ted's bottle. Ted d’Auvergne, a New Zealand WW2 soldier was at the pub and late for his embarkation train. He asked the publican to set aside his 2nd bottle of beer to drink when he came home. Ted was killed but the promise was kept and that bottle of beer is still there
