TIL that the thermonuclear stage of an 3.8 megaton hydrogen bomb is buried approximately 180 feet under a field in Faro, NC. It fell from a crashing B52 in 1961. The bomb impacted the ground at nearly mach 1. Being so massive, it drove itself nearly 200 feet down and recovery was deemed impossible.
