TIL The State Legislature of Virginia, The Virginia General Assembly, is the oldest lawmaking body in the New World and was established at Jamestown, on July 30, 1619. 157 years later, seven Virginians who had been elected to this body would sign the Declaration of Independence, on August 2nd, 1776.
