A combination store of two similar dollar store chains is something we haven’t seen too many of yet.

Dollar Tree, which owns Family Dollar, has found a way to introduce the masses to the unusual combination in New Jersey.

A combination Family Dollar/Dollar Tree will occupy a 19,500-square-foot building in South Plainfield at the 1620 Park Ave. shopping center in the space of a former Aldi.

A timeframe for the store’s opening has yet to be announced.

The combination store concept offers traditional Dollar Tree merchandise (party items, school supplies, greeting cards and seasonal decorations) and Family Dollar items, like frozen/refrigerated food, pantry goods, beauty products, household supplies and clothing.

“Dollar Tree has had significant early success with this new combo-store format and targeted this desirable market for expansion,” Vanessa Fernandez-Kelty, leasing representative for the space, said. “We are pleased to meet its needs at 1620 Park Avenue, which will have a whole new look and feel when the store opens.”

Family Dollar/Dollar Tree will neighbor popular retailers and food chains in the area, including CVS, Dunkin’, Burger King and ShopRite.

There are currently over 400 Family Dollar and Dollar Tree combo stores operating nationwide.
