This documentary tells the hidden story of how benzodiazepines can both maim and kill. The serious crippling physical side effects of these drugs can last for years after the medication is stopped, possibly permanently. Renowned expert Professor Heather Ashton compares it to the Thalidomide scandal. This video has been featured on Irish National TV RTE 1, it has been the subject of radio interviews on the UK BBC and RTE as well, featured also in the UK Sunday Times, and the Irish Times, a Voice America podcast by Dr Patricia Halligan, also available on Spotify, and many other media. A special cut was made for a special screening at an International conference on these dangerous drugs in the USA in 2017; this cut is available on this channel. It is also embedded in an article the producer/director and presenter has published on the famous Mad in America website, revealing for the first time that the US FDA finally did research on the vast number of complaints it had received over the years from victims of these prescription drugs in the US where prescription numbers have reached over 90 million per year. The FDA research, long after this documentary was published, found that victims suffered serious long term physiological harm from BZDs, leading to the FDA seeking Black Box warnings on these drugs in 2020, something they had resisted for a decade.
