“Extreme Makeover,” whose doctors are seen here, was canceled in July 2007. Besides plummeting ratings, the series was plagued with a heartbreaking lawsuit from Deleese Williams in September 2005. CNN reports that producers had told Williams she’d be on the show to get jaw surgery and dental work to “have a smile like Cindy Crawford,” but later canceled her appearance because her procedures would have taken too long to heal. Williams’ sister, Kellie McGee, reportedly had been manipulated by producers to mock Williams’ appearance. When the episode was canned, McGee was so distraught over what she’d said about her sister, the suit claims, she committed suicide four months later. The suit was settled out of court in fall 2006.

Alec Baldwin had a short-lived stint as an MSNBC talking head. “Up Late With Alec Baldwin” lasted five episodes, from October to November 2013. The reason it came to an abrupt end? Baldwin cursed out a Post photographer, calling him a “c——-ing faggot.” When reports of the incident surfaced, MSNBC initially suspended the hotheaded actor for two weeks before pulling the plug completely.

Bill Maher’s “Politically Correct” moved from Comedy Central to ABC in 1997, where it enjoyed a decent run … until September 2001. On an episode that aired on Sept. 17, 2001, less than a week after the 9/11 attacks, Maher said on air, “We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That’s cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it’s not cowardly.” The show was canned in July 2002, with the New York Times reporting that Maher attributed the cancellation to his comment — and to the decline in advertising that followed it.

HGTV cancelled “Flip It Forward” before it even aired. In May, the website Right Wing Watch declared that host David Benham was homophobic and anti-choice for leading a prayer rally outside the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The site also published a recording of Benham, who would’ve hosted the show with twin Jason, discussing “homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation.”
After the cancellation, Benham told CNN, “We love all people. I love homosexuals. I love Islam, Muslims, and my brother and I would never discriminate. … Never have I ever spoken against homosexuals, as individuals, and gone against them. I speak about an agenda. And that’s really what the point of this is — is that there is an agenda that is seeking to silence the voices of men and women of faith.”

Less than two weeks later, Jenkins committed suicide.
