Millions of eyeballs will be glued to the ball drop in Times Square on Tuesday night, but few people know anything about the building underneath. According to the New Yorker’s fascinating short documentary on One Times Square, the building started out as the headquarters of the New York Times, housed a speakeasy and an FBI office used to trap German spies during World War II, and is now mostly abandoned, as no one wants to work in a building where all the windows are covered by billboards.
